Zusammenfassung

Split-Hopkinson Pressure Bar experiment is one of the most commonly used tests to characterize the mechanical response of specimens under high strain rates. The theoretical basis of this experiment is based on one-dimensional wave theory. Dealing with this theory in experimental or numerical way, one might observe several mistakes or variation which are often summarized as dispersion. To analyze such phenomena(on), numerical study on the interaction of striker and incident bar was done which revealed much more details which were not accounted before. This numerical investigation helped in understanding the influences of different parameters on the incident wave produced due to striker impact. Negligance of Poisson's ratio resulted in incorrect calculation of strain values and in turn affected the kinetic energy as well. Influence of different material properties, and impedance differ®ence caused by it were also seen. Most of these results call for further detailed investigations. Also results of numerical investigation of interaction between incident bar and specimen and the interaction between specimen and the transmission bar is required for proper understanding and affirmation of various effects caused.
